PATIENT SAFETY, SERVICE QUALITY AND CLINICAL CONVENIENCE DELIVERED TODAY
Transitioning to new electronic clinical and patient management systems can have its own challenges as clinicians and administrators work to transform decades old work practices, while maintaining patient safety and service quality.
PAMS has been designed to work cooperatively with electronic medical records (eMRS) and electronic ordering initiatives. With a fresh new approach, its mobility design, app styling and flexibility can deliver targeted solutions that can be quickly deployed and adopted by clinicians.
Delivering new visibility, control and convenience to diagnostic testing services within the hospital setting, PAMS bridges the gap between clinicians, the laboratory and patients. Diagnostic testing, that now support more than 70% of clinical decisions, are delivered efficiently and without error.
OPTIMISING ERROR-FREE ORDERING & COLLECTIONS
PAMS facilitates and manages the wide variety of hospital ordering and sample collection scenarios, managing routine ward collections, outpatients and specialised collection scenarios. Using convenient mobile devices, PAMS can be used anywhere by clinicians, phlebotomists and nursing staff to manage the ordering of diagnostic testing, the collection and transportation of samples, and the review of patient test results.
PAMS allows you to tailor specific app flows, rules and processing to facilitate diagnostic ordering and sample collection management processes for key hospital operations such as Emergency and Surgical wards. For example, to support ordering in an Emergency scenario, test profiles are created to allow clinicians to order common test sets by clinical condition or symptom, with processing rules to provide priority instructions to the lab, and to trigger monitoring alerts to clinicians.
PAMS implements best practice standards in combination with the rules and procedures that you define to deliver confidence that each sample collected meets your defined collection standards. Based on a mobile platform, PAMS is able to manage collections as they occur – anywhere required. PAMS ensures that every user has full knowledge of the sample collection rules and procedures that you define, guiding them through each step in the collection process, and ensuring that compliance requirements are observed and that all necessary records are created and maintained.
EMRS INTEGRATION & MIGRATION
PAMS securely exchanges medical information with electronic medical records (EMRS) and ordering systems to provide seamless integration for the delivery of laboratory services. PAMS accepts orders originated electronically within any EMRS or clinical system, paper-based orders, or orders generated through the PAMS app suite. Irrespective of how each order is generated, once registered in PAMS, each order can be managed with visibility for clinicians, patients and the laboratory.
PAMS can become a valuable tool that can deliver a smooth transition from manual ordering processes to a new EMRS, providing progressive and manageable migration that is convenient for clinicians and reduces risk to patient health and safety. It can also be used to extend the reach of your EMRS to provide ordering services, alerts and results delivery to clinicians via their mobile devices or at their surgery.
SERVICING CONSULTING SPECIALISTS
PAMS makes it easy to extend high quality services to visiting specialists, enabling them to conveniently order and approve services, receive and review test results, receive notification and communication with ward staff, all from their mobile device or their surgery desktop.
PAMS ensures that consulting specialists are provided with ease of use and visibility of the diagnostic testing services for every patient. PAMS makes the ordering of laboratory testing services simple and convenient – to make sure that the right tests are ordered for the right patient, and that test results are delivered conveniently and when required.
SAMPLE TRACKING & TRACABILITY
Knowing where each sample is at any given time is key to managing with certainty that testing is completed and results are delivered within service standards. PAMS gives clinicians and the lab immediate visibility of when samples are required at the lab, the testing requirements for each sample, and the required turn-around time. PAMS allows you to track the journey of each sample throughout its lifetime.
Working in conjunction with Chain of Custody (CoC) rules, PAMS maintains immediacy of tracking and full traceability of each stage of the sample journey. Through active alerts and notifications, PAMS enables you to be notified of processing or handling exceptions, so that you can proactively manage the care of each sample. For critical or urgent test requirements, active alerts can pre-emptively warn of potential processing issues (for example if a sample has not arrived at a checkpoint, or is behind scheduled delivery to the lab).
BEST PRACTICE PPID & PSID
PAMS is built upon best practice standards that protect patient safety and the maintenance of highest quality standards for clinical services. Designed from the ground up to support mobility and convenience, PAMS implements best practice standards at every step in the process, at the point of care, so that the risk errors are eliminated.
Incorrect patient identification is one of the most common sources of errors and these errors can lead to serious risk to patient care and safety. PAMS integrates best practice positive patient identification (PPID) methods into every app, and allows you to define the rules and procedures required for each identification scenario. Being integrated, these rules may not be bypassed or skipped.
To eliminate sample identification errors, positive sample identification (PSID) is a key part of the PAMS collections app process. The Collections App ensures that as each sample is collected, it is correctly identified at the point of care, dramatically reducing the risk of mix-ups or identification errors. PAMS ensures that the right sample is identified for the right patient each time.
PAMS has been designed to respond to your changing needs, advancements in technology and changing best-practice standards. New methods for PPID and PSID can easily be added, so you can be confident that you will always be in front of best practices and technological advancements.
QUALITY CONTROL & AUDITABILITY
Knowing that every testing episode been conducted correctly and compliantly, that each sample has been collected and handled within correct procedures, and that patient privacy has been protected, are fundamental concerns for every hospital, clinician and patient. PAMS ensures that each process step is conducted compliant with the quality rules and procedures that you implement, and that every action is traceable and auditable.
The PAMS Audit Trail is integrated into every action and event undertaken by each user to provide a complete history of every service ordered and diagnostic test result delivered. The audit trail provides a full compliance history that can be accessed to analyse service efficiency or satisfy regulatory audits.
INTEGRATED INSTANT COMMUNICATIONS
The wide variety of collection scenarios presented within a hospital setting can challenge even the most well defined and practiced collection procedures. Where uncertainties and questions arise, the ability to instantly communicate with lab or authoritative personnel can remove the risk of errors or to patient care.
Through instant communications, PAMS makes available, authorities from any location, allowing clinicians and hospital staff to be directly connected with the lab, to receive advice or instruction that removes uncertainty and risk. PAMS integrates communications within each activity to show the presence and availability of relevant authoritative personnel. Each communication event is logged and maintained as an auditable record within PAMS.
